Yorkshire Folk Arts has now completed two rounds of consultation meetings in Beverley, Brigg, Carleton in Craven (Skipton area), Leeds, Ripon, Wentworth, Whitby, and York. There have also been a number of informal sessions at festivals across the region.
The meetings have been open to all interested people, and various opinions have been expressed and suggestions made. The following is a summary of the major issues raised:

Communication
- Issues about Yorkshire wide information
- Sharing of advertising
- Becoming part of wider music scene advertising
- Conflict calendar - preferably web based

- Raising the image of Folk music - particularly countering negative stereotypes in the media
- Contact with the broader based media generally to raise profile and image

Young people & education work
- Work in and with school age young people
- Contact with Higher Education establishments

Funding
- Information about funding possibilities
- Funding for specific events

Liaison with local authorities
- Planning advice on open dance spaces
- Health & Safety advice on facilities in general
- Advice on licensing (and its implications)

Broadening participation

Venues
- Identifying "Folk Friendly" venues - especially for young people

Standards
- Concerns about standards of performance

Advocacy
- The role of YFA as a advocate for folk music in many of the above situations with strategic bodies such as ACE Yorkshire, Yorkshire Forward and the media
