Education Officer
Yorkshire Dales Workshops is looking to appoint a part time education officer early in the New Year. The freelance post will be for 2 days per week over 47 weeks.
Fee offered is £100 per day plus some travel expenses.
We are looking for someone with a professional background in education with knowledge of the National Curriculum and interest and enthusiasm in folk arts.
The role of the officer will be
-
to promote folk music & dance through organising workshops & performances
in schools and communities
- to give help in the development of associated learning materials and to
promote their use in schools
- to oversee monitoring and evaluation of projects
- to develop networks and collaborations with schools and other arts
organisations
- to expand YDW's network of artists & educators
- to develop mentoring opportunities for young artists
- to provide information to support educational funding bids

Adastra, Moneypenny and Frusion are three busy music agencies specialising in Folk, Roots, World Music and Classic Rock. They work with leading artists in these genres from Britain and around the World, organising tours and individual concerts. The post holder will be involved in the administration for these three agencies, employed by Adastra which co-ordinates all the administration. The post is demanding and requires much dedication and hard work. The post holder needs to be highly motivated, hard working, organised, thorough, reliable and confident with the ability to use their own initiative. They should be able to work on their own, unsupervised, as well as being a team member. They must have a good telephone manner and strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook).
The post holder will be required to have a current driving licence and a vehicle.
Core responsibilities:
- Undertake all the Administrative tasks connected to the touring of the group Black Umfolosi (Zimbabwe) which Adastra manages worldwide
- Type up and send out contracts and promotional material on behalf of certain artists whose administration the post holder will be responsible for
- Receive incoming contracts on behalf of the above artists
- Prepare and send out promotional material, including demo CDs, biographies and videos
- Liaise over the availability of certain specified artists
- Update technical specifications and riders in association with the agents
- Collate tour files and information for artists
- Book accommodation for artists when required
- Book travel for artists when required
- Maintain and update the agencies Media list
- Send out monthly Media mail shots
- Liaise with the Media
- Undertake administrative duties for the Nu-Routes promoters network
- Answering and directing telephone calls, dealing with enquiries and taking clear and concise messages
- Other duties as and when required
This is primarily an administrative job but some agenting work may develop from it.

Barnsley Guitar and Folk Ensembles
Trainee Music Tutor required

The Barnsley Guitar & Folk Ensemble have received funding from Youth Music to organise a series of workshops to promote the performance of traditional music. The bid included the opportunity for a 16 - 19 year old student to take on the role of Trainee Music Tutor.
The Trainee will be required to:
- provide guidance and tuition for beginners on two folk related instruments
- attend workshop sessions with experienced community musicians
- assist with the organisation of small performance groups
- assist students in their search for repertoire
- assist in the organisation of workshops and concerts
- assist and gain experience of music technology and recording
- assist and gain experience of song writing and arranging
Chris McShane, Head of Guitar and Keyboard at Barnsley's Performing Arts Development Service will act as mentor to the trainee.
The successful candidate will be in post-16 education, and wishing to pursue either a career in the music industry or study music at university.
During the 2004/2005 academic year the trainee will be required to attend workshops on 4 Saturdays, for which a fee of £240 will be paid. Further opportunities will be available in 2005/2006.
