The World's Biggest Ceilidh Band!
an attempt on the record

Sheffield 3 May

The World's Biggest Ceilidh Band: logo: link to website As part of this years's Kelham Island Folk Festival (formerly Kelham Mayfest) the South Riding Folk Network will be making a bid for the world record with a humunguous ensemble of musicians from around the region.

At 2.30 pm the band will play two sets of tunes for the dancers. Obviously, advance rehearsal together is impossible, so they will be relying on the expert direction of Robin Garside to keep it all together. All musicians are welcome (even shaky eggs are encouraged!) but you will need to register beforehand so that your participation is official, and so that you can be sent printed music or a recording of the tunes in advance.

More information, contact details and a printable registration form can be found at the SRFN website:
http://www.folk-network.com/events/2004/big.ceilidh.html

The last attempt was staged in 1998 with a band 124-strong, but was never officially recognised. Organisers Ron Day and Robin Garside have great hopes this time around. Be there!
