Barnsley International Day of Dance

Barnsley Folk Development Network presents an International Day of Dance on Saturday 4th October- a day long festival of dance workshops followed by an evening ceilidh. Have a go at Arabic, Indian, Salsa, Morris or Sword dancing. Your chance to learn new dance skills, have fun, or keep fit - dance for all, beginners welcome!

Dance workshops
9.30 am - 6 pm at the Cooper Gallery, Church Street, Barnsley. Take the opportunity to learn about different dance styles from around the world, from Arabic folk dances from North Africa to Morris dance styles from the North of England. All workshops are free of charge and open to adults over 16. No experience necessary.

You can take part in as many or as few workshops as you wish. Wear comfortable clothing and trainers or bare feet. Please phone in advance to book your place on your chosen workshop(s).

9.30 - 10.50:   Egyptian Folk Dance (women only)
11.00 - 12.20:   Barnsley Longsword Dancing
12.30 - 13.50:   Morris Dancing with Wath Morris
14.00 - 15.20:   Indian Dancing- Bollywood Style
15.30 - 16.50:   Salsa Dancing

Ceilidh party
To round off the day in style, a ceilidh party is being held in the evening at Kingstone School, Barnsley, from 7.30 - 11pm. Live music will be provided by local heroes Swing Yer Granny with the one and only Chris McShane as caller helping us all to learn the steps.

All the family are welcome, it will be a fun, friendly evening with fine music and fine company! Beer, wine, lager and soft drinks bar. Tickets £3 (individuals), £10 (family).

The event is part of this autumn's "All Barnsley" festival, which sets out to showcase the creative talents of all of Barnsley's communities, alongside diverse arts from across the region.
