Al Asria Palestinian Youth Folk Dance Group: tour 2005
   
Al Asria Palestinian Youth Folk Dance Group As part of their first tour outside Gaza, Al Asria Palestinian Youth Folk Dance Group perform Dabka, the popular traditional dances and songs of Palestine at the Merlin Theatre, Meadow Bank Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield at 7.30pm on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th June, as part of the Children's Festival. Al Asria are a group of Palestinian young people aged 14 - 17, who live in Jabalia Refugee Camp in the Gaza strip. They are committed to celebrating, sharing and preserving Palestinian culture by performing Dabka.

The Yorkshire Palestine Cultural Exchange together with supporters from Sheffield, York and Derbyshire have raised funds to bring Al Asria over for a tour which will also include York, Bakewell, Liverpool and Birmingham. The dancers are arriving in Sheffield on Saturday 26 June, and will be staying with local families. The tour was originally planned for last November, but had to be cancelled when the Gaza border was closed.

York: Wednesday July: 7.30 pm at Temple Hall, St John College, Lord Mayors Walk. Tickets £7.50 (£5 concessions) from York Tourist Information Centre, St Leonard’s Place (credit card bookings with tickets mailed to you on 01904 621756) or from Fairer World, 84 Gillygate (01904 655116). A few tickets may be available on the door on the night.

Bakewell: Friday 8 July: 7.30 pm at the Medway Centre, New Street. Tickets £6 (£3 concessions) from the Bakewell Bookshop or on the door. Info: Jude on 01629 815469.
